International Rallies are a high point in the Maserati year and for 2013, it was the turn of the Swiss Maserati Club to host the event, set in Montreux in late September.

Ten teams from the UK took part, of which nine were McGrath Maserati clients and all in Classics ranging from Sebring to Mistral to Quattroporte II and even a 5000GT. Andy Heywood from McGrath Maserati also took part with Drummond Bone in his Indy 4900.

Internationals are a great way to meet the wider Maserati community. Peter Straub for instance, the Swiss club chief event organiser, is a Maserati collector of note, with not only Ghibli and Mistral Spyders, but also one of the Touring Bellagios, which over the weekend was being used a fast service barge! The legendary Ermanno Cozza and Fabio Collina from the Maserati Factory also attended and judged the Concours. And just to prove that the Maserati passion is truly global, we met for the first time Tyrone Chin, a Quattroporte owner from Bermuda!

The weekend itinerary took us into the Jura region briefly and the vallee de joux – a watch aficionado’s paradise, the highpoint being a tour of Blancpain. Talking of high points, we also managed some exciting mountain passes through areas more familiar when they are snow covered. Back at our base of the Montreux Palace hotel, a display of Quattroportes featuring all the different series – including of course the new series six, greeted us on the lakeside garden.

It wouldn’t be an International without a gala dinner and a prize-giving and this was no exception. McGrath clients picked up awards in the road touring category and also a win in the Concours – Stephen Dowling and his 5000GT. And then there was a most important announcement: For next year is the centenary of Maserati and a very special International Rally, hosted naturally by Maserati themselves, will take place in Italy from September 19th to 21st 2014. It will quite literally be the Maserati event of the century and not to be missed.

The McGrath Maserati workshop is already gearing up for demand from our clients to prepare cars for this event and it promises to be a busy year. Don’t delay if you want to make a booking for your classic.
